The Holy Rosary: A Journey Through the Gospel

The Rosary is a meditative prayer that uses beads to keep track of a sequence of prayers while we reflect on the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

How to Pray the Rosary

Follow these steps using your Rosary beads:

1. The Beginning: Make the Sign of the Cross and pray the Apostles' Creed.

2. The First Beads: Pray one Our Father, followed by three Hail Marys (for Faith, Hope, and Charity), and one Glory Be.

3. Announce the Mystery: State the first Mystery (e.g., "The First Joyful Mystery: The Annunciation").

4. The Decades: For each of the five decades:

   • Pray one Our Father on the large bead.

   • Pray ten Hail Marys on the small beads while meditating on the Mystery.

   • Pray one Glory Be.

   • Pray the O My Jesus (Fatima Prayer): "O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of Thy mercy."

5. The Conclusion: After five decades, pray the Hail, Holy Queen, followed by the Concluding Prayer:

   • O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. The Twenty Mysteries

The Mysteries are divided into four groups, traditionally prayed on specific days of the week.

1. The Joyful Mysteries (Mondays & Saturdays)

Focus on the incarnation and the hidden life of Christ.

• The Annunciation: The Angel Gabriel visits Mary.

• The Visitation: Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth.

• The Nativity: Jesus is born in Bethlehem.

• The Presentation: Jesus is presented in the Temple.

• The Finding in the Temple: The boy Jesus is found among the teachers.

2. The Luminous Mysteries (Thursdays)

Focus on the public ministry of Christ (The Mysteries of Light).

• The Baptism in the Jordan: Jesus is baptized by John.

• The Wedding at Cana: Jesus performs His first miracle.

• The Proclamation of the Kingdom: Jesus calls all to conversion.

• The Transfiguration: Jesus is revealed in glory on the mountain.

• The Institution of the Eucharist: The Last Supper.

3. The Sorrowful Mysteries (Tuesdays & Fridays)

Focus on the Passion and suffering of Christ.

• The Agony in the Garden: Jesus prays in Gethsemane.

• The Scourging at the Pillar: Jesus is whipped by the soldiers.

• The Crowning with Thorns: Jesus is mocked with a crown of thorns.

• The Carrying of the Cross: Jesus carries the wood to Calvary.

4. The Glorious Mysteries (Wednesdays & Sundays)

Focus on the victory of Christ and the hope of Heaven.

• The Descent of the Holy Spirit: Pentecost and the birth of the Church.

• The Assumption: Mary is taken body and soul into Heaven.
