Christian Mothers Association

HISTORY OF THE SOCIETY

The Christian Mothers Association (CMA) is a vibrant and influential women’s organization within the Catholic Church, particularly active in Ghana. Established in the early 1940s, the CMA was initially formed to promote the spiritual growth of Catholic women. Over time, its mission expanded to include social, economic, and educational empowerment, making it a cornerstone of community development and faith-based service.

The Christian Mothers Association was meant for Christian women in all churches hence the name Christian Mothers Association for other denominations as well.

The first national president was a Presbyterian. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation of Germany came into train women in skill training like farming and soap making. Most women who were involved were Catholics so the other women left the association.

At Adweso, the Parish Priest at the time, now Monsignor Francis Twum Barimah saw the need for the CMA to be formed at Adweso. In 1994 August, 20 mothers were initiated and inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Paul Dankyi.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES



-To help with the activities of the church.

-To assist members, grow in holiness and unite in prayer.

-To support members in the education of their children in the catholic faith and make their whole household Christians.

-To make members financially independent.

-To give charity.

MEETINGS AND ACTIVITIES

Regular Meetings- CMA members meet fortnightly on Wednesday evenings. 5-7 pm

Emergency meetings are also held when the need arises.
